"Old Fashioned
Preserves and Jellies"
|
|
A Little History
Glenmore Farms is a small family business founded
30 years ago by my parents, Fred & Barbara Daufel. In 1975
the two brought 55 years of combined preserving experience
to their
new endeavor. They named their fledgling company after my great,
great grandfather's 1853 160-acre Donation Land Claim.
After emigrating from England via Lawrence, Massachusetts, Edward
Byrom settled
in and raised his family at the home he named Glenmore Farm.
Byrom's Glenmore Farm was nestled in the valley just a dozen
miles north
of our present location here in Canby.
As we carry on the family
preserving tradition, we strive to produce Jellies, Preserves
and Full Fruit Syrups of superb, old fashioned quality because
we believe our customers deserve nothing less than our very best.
Though both are gone now, Barbara & Fred would have insisted
it be done no other way.

About Berries
& Other Interesting Stuff |

|
Black Raspberry -
Also known as the Black Cap. A native to North America, this
berry has been described as among "the best of brambles". This
small blue/black berry with a hollow core has a distinctive & delightful
taste. Since it contains a great number of small seeds, we
bring the Black Raspberry to you in our Seedless Preserve. |

|
Boysenberry -
This berry was developed by a Southern California berry grower,
Rudolph Boysen, then cultivated and popularized by Walter Knott.
It is thought to be a cross between a Blackberry and a Loganberry
or a Red Raspberry. Deep maroon in color, the Boysen is very
large with very large seeds. We have this variety available in
Seedless Preserves & Jelly. |
|
Huckleberry -
This berry is not commercially produced, but rather it is a
wild berry that grows in mountain ranges above 5,000 feet.
Though it resembles a blueberry, the Huckleberry has a distinct,
wild
& bold flavor. We make this variety in both Preserves & Syrup. |

|
Marion
Blackberry -
A native Oregonian, it is a cross between a Chehalem Blackberry
& an Ollallieberry Blackberry. Medium in size & dark
red to black in color, the "Marion" has a medium sized seed.
Whereas other
blackberry varieties are sold under a generic "blackberry"
label, these berries are considered a premium variety so
they are specifically referred to as Marion Blackberries
or Marionberries.

|
Red Raspberry -
Indigenous to Asia Minor and North America, Red Raspberries
thrive in Oregon's relatively cool marine climate west of the
Cascade Mountains. Medium in size, red in color with a small
seed and hollow core... a true berry classic. We have this
variety in Preserves, Seedless Preserves, Jelly and Syrup. |

|
Strawberry -
The Strawberry is thought to have been cultivated in ancient
Rome. The first American species was cultivated in about 1835,
though the first major U.S. production of the berries was grown
shortly before that time from a hybrid developed in France.
Though Strawberries are available from every state in the United
States & from many foreign countries, we use only Oregon grown
Strawberries. We have this variety available in Preserves.
|
Strawberry Rhubarb -
Just like the combination in the popular pie of the same name.
Just think of old fashioned Strawberry Preserves with the exciting
extra flavor of Rhubarb.
Apricot & Pineapple -
The smoothness of the Apricot compliments the tang of the Pineapple
to yield a delightful, almost buttery combination. This is
one of our favorites.
Orange Marmalade -
This is not my English Aunt's variety, all bitter and brown.
No, think more of a delightful orange preserve with a bit of
zest. It is delicious! |
